The Harbour Within

A Book of Simple Spirituality

By Sister Consilio

  • Hardback
  • £14.99

An inspiring book of down-to-earth spirituality for anyone searching for a sense of peace in today's world

In today's busy world, we can get caught up with the worries and stresses of life. We live in our heads, as we move at lightning pace from one thing to the next.
Here, in The Harbour Within, Sister Consilio of Cuan Mhuire suggests how we can live happier and more peaceful lives by learning to live from the soul instead of our heads.
From a seven-day guide to living at soul level, to thoughts and inspirations to carry you through difficult times, The Harbour Within shows us how we can discover a place of peace, unconditional love and joy - a harbour within.

'When we move out of our heads and begin to live at soul level, we open ourselves to a life with unconditional love: one that strives to reach beyond thought, expectation, emotion and feeling' Sister Consilio

Biographical Notes

Sister Consilio was born in 1937 in Brosna, County Kerry. She was one of seven children and her upbringing in Kerry with her parents and brothers and sisters had a profound effect on her faith, establishing in her a spirituality which has carried her through life.
After training as a nurse and midwife, Sister Consilio joined the Sisters of Mercy in Athy, County Kildare at the age of twenty-two. While working in St Vincent's Hospital in Athy, she came into contact with many 'road men' - men who used to travel round with no home to call their own. It was through meeting the 'road men' that Sister Consilio had the idea to provide a place of safety and love for people with no home. There are now five Cuan Mhuire rehabilitation centres throughout Ireland providing help and treatment for those in addiction.
Sister Consilio still works at the Cuan Mhuire centres, helping those in need.

Emily Hourican
Authors:
Emily Hourican

Two very different families ... One is loud, eccentric, rich and confident. The other is less sure of their place in life. On holidays in Portugal, a near-drowning brings the ten-year-old daughters, Jamie and Sarah, together and a friendship is formed. As the bond between the girls grows deeper, so too do the ties between their families and an unsettling closeness develops between two of the adults. Then, as Jamie begins to feel suffocated by the intensity of Sarah's friendship, cracks begin to show. What will it take to shatter the façade of friendship? The affair? The obsessive crush? And which family will be left whole? The Outsider is the compelling and unforgettable story of the complexity of friendship, marriage, hidden passions and teenage desire.'The Outsider is everything you could want from high-end commercial fiction - it's sharp, compelling, and full of keenly observed truths about human behaviour. Emily Hourican has always been an insightful, astute writer but this may be her best novel yet.' Louise O'Neill

Peter Daly was nineteen when he left Donegal, bound for America. Nine years later, in 1961, following a stint with the US Army, he joined the New York Police Department. His beat was the Lower East Side of Manhattan during one of the worst crime-waves in the city and, determined to make his mark, Daly was quickly earmarked for promotion to the Special Investigating Unit - the Princes of the City. The SIU played by its own rules and answered to nobody and, in 1970, at the pinnacle of his career, Daly made one of the department's biggest drug bust: 105 kilos of pure heroin and cocaine. But only 100 kilos was surrendered ...From his remarkable rise within the NYPD to his time served in Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary on 'Mafia' Row with some of the most notorious gangsters in American history, including the Lufthansa robber Jimmy 'the Gent' Burke, Benny Ong, 'Godfather of Chinatown', and New York wiseguy Charlie Brody, Peter Daly's story is the stuff of Hollywood scriptwriters. The only thing is: it is true.'Of course, I was dishonest, but you have to make your own judgement. I was brought up to know right from wrong. My regrets are innumerable. It is all part of life. But I would die rather than inform on my police friends. The oath of office I took included loyalty. I gave up my family, my life and all that it meant to me ...' Peter Daly
